A work full of contradictions that make it a unique still life

River & Clouds midcentury painting Jouault left for Paris at19th century French School oil on wood panel. The work is smooth to the touch. A river landscape, with thick trees covering most of some tucked away dwellings. The brushstrokes are varied in intensity and volume, creating a profound relief. The sky and its mauve accents brighten the scene and contrast with the dark mass of central trees. The original golden frame with dark traces of time are in harmony with the palette of the landscape.
